Club Layout
With the club layout being consistently firm under foot, mostly over concrete and dry grass, this affords us a high level of Sporting configuration. The Skeet, ABT, DTL and Sportrap are of the highest quality and what you would expect at any major club.
The club is supported by on site refreshments covering the normal array of drinks and warm food. A portable toilet company supplies the toilet facilities for all employee and customer alike.
The club whilst based in the Garrison is accessed via the main entrance of the Royal Artillery Barracks were a form of identification (shotgun certificate) will be required by the security staff, however the process is quick and painless!
When to visit
The club opens on the second and forth Sundays of every month and offers the customers a relaxed professional environment, allowing everyone free rein to shoot any amount of targets at the varying stands, with no formal shoot total being posted.
Competitions
The club holds two major competitions a year;
The Royal Artillery Team and individual Championships (September)
This takes the form of a 100 bird sporting layout and a 50 bird Skeet competition. This championship generally attracts approximately 100 Gunner competitors and a large civilian custom as the championship offers a non Royal Artillery individaul and team prize.
The Annual Army Benevolent Fund Charity Shoot (September)
A busy shoot that attract over the weekend some two hundred shots. This competition takes the format of a 100 Bird sporting layout as the main competition, a fifty bird Skeet competition and a 4-man team flush competition.
Salisbury Plain
The Club is situated within the Royal Artillery Barracks Larkhill and is primarily an open land area with a man made banking cutting though the area. The Club area is surrounded by the military perimeter security fence. The area is free of commercial, farm and housing, and looks over the Salisbury Plain Military Training Area.
Since the mid-19th century, much of Salisbury Plain has been used for military training and large areas of the Plain have consequently escaped the intensive post-war arable farming regime which has characterised the majority of the southern English chalk lands. The military training areas therefore retain a wealth of well-preserved archaeological monuments and extensive relict historic landscapes.
The club is part of the Salisbury plain training area and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI); the club is inspected by an environment advisor on a regular basis.
